Beginners - what to bring   PDF  Print  E-mail

If you are taking part in a beginners course, there are a few things you need to bring :

  • A swimsuit
  • A towel, big enough for changing in
  • A hat (ideally a woolly or fleece one)
  • Sunglasses and sun-screen
  • A fleece, thermal or tracksuit top, to wear under your waterproof paddling top. Do not wear cotton as it's very cold when wet
  • A pair of runners, sandals or neoprene booties (which you might have if you've done some paddling or windsurfing).
  • If you wear glasses, please bring something with which to tie them on.

All this will get wet, so don't bring anything too fancy!

We'll provide you with all the 'technical' stuff you need: a wetsuit, a waterproof paddling top (or 'cag'), a spraydeck to keep out the splashes and of course a boat and paddle.

Tea and coffee is served at end of each session, after everyone has helped to load the boats back onto the trailer; you can of course bring your own hot drinks too if you wish.

For weekend courses, you will usually be having lunch on an island so do bring a packed lunch. Also, you may be on the water for several hours at a time so bring a snack and some chocolate or other high-energy food, plus something to drink.
