Where does it happen? We paddle from Bulloch Harbour in Dalkey unless the weather is more suitable elsewhere. We’ll bring you to Dalkey Island where you’ll visit the early Christian church, the Martello Tower and fort which date from Napoleonic times. On the waters around, you’re likely to be watched by the islands Grey Seals.
What do you need to bring?
Very little. A pair of runners, a swimsuit and a fleece or thermal top. We provide kayak, paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid, waterproof jacket and spray deck. We’ll give you a list when you book.
Who are the instructors?
All our instructors are qualified to teach and lead on open water by the Irish Canoe Union. On sheltered waters, we never have more than 6 students per instructor and on open water, it’s never more than 4:1.
Our guys have huge experience that they’re happy to share with you. They have paddled in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, British Columbia, New Zealand and Cape Horn in Chile.
What will you get out of it?
A lot of fun, a challange, a different view of the city and up close to wildlife. We’re also very big on safety although we don’t go on about it.
You’ll learn how to handle a 5 metre sea kayak with confidence and in a variety of conditions. After the Introductory course, you’ll be able to go on camping trips to explore the Irish islands, some inhabited, some deserted.
All you need is a sense of adventure and a willingness to learn
.
